This guy on youtube used some loosely taped batteries to add more horsepower to his Pioneer. Anyone else try this?

I joined your forum from Slickdeals! , so I added a T harness to add longer run time not power. I simply added a T harness to the current battery and I bought a beat up xiaomi m365 off facebook took the battery out and i'm in the process of hanging that on there, I just need to order an xt30 plug so i don't have to cut the battery terminals. Now my question would be, can i charge the two batteries in parallel with the hover charger while both are plugged in or do i have to charge the xiaomi battery seperate. please join my facebook group too for the hover maybe we can build a community around it.https://www.facebook.com/groups/562922267894592/

It seems like there are two major approaches. The first is to connect the battery packs in parallel. This has the advantage of being "set it and forget it" once everything is done, but it probably does take longer to recharge the batteries if you're using the same charger. It is also more technically complicated because you must ensure that all cells are perfectly balanced before connecting them up the first time, or you may cause damage.
The second option is to have some sort of switch that allows you to select battery packs. I have heard that doing so while the scooter is turned on (or at least running) can cause damage so there would need to be some sort of interlock. The upside is it's simpler and allows you to charge the battery packs in parallel.
My biggest question for now is how to identify a reliable battery supplier. Search for "36 volt battery" on Ali Express and you find tons of batteries claiming to be "Panasonic," but I suspect they are as legit as the PemesaniG batteries I got from Fry's a while back.

I believe most people that do this level of customization buy the individual cells of name brand, which generally mean the most reliability, particularly the Samsung 18650 ones and assemble them together. Check out the e-bike world and you will see lots of people that do this. At this point I am considering cracking the scooter open and putting in a new pack of batteries as I would say after about 4 miles off a full charge I notice a big difference in the performance of the scooter and this all has to do with the battery.
